Recently I tried Weleda Skin Food. It’s a botanical skin lotion that really nourishes and hydrates your skin. Featuring peanut oil, sweet almond oil and other soothing ingredients, this product is ideal for dry or sensitive skin.
If you haven’t tried the Weleda line, it’s really great. It features everything from lotions and creams to deodorant and massage oils.
You can shop for the Weleda collection at Skin Botanica. The Weleda Skin Food is $17 for a 2.5 oz tube. The line is really affordable with most products between $5 and $25.

There’s no need to go to the spa or dermatologist for microdermabrasion. The Natural Microdermabrasion Kit from Zia Natural Skincare is the perfect alternative for home.
This kit includes three products, plus their microdermabrasion tool. You get the Natural Scrub, Skin Balancing Tonic and Moisturize Infusino Serum. These products are natural and alumnimum and paraben free. Also included is the tool with stand, plus a replacable sponge head.
To use it, you squeeze a small amount of the scrub onto the tool, dab it onto damp skin, and then turn on the tool. Using light pressure in circles, you can exfoliate your skin in just a couple minutes. Then follow up with the tonic and serum.
With this 3-step process, you skin will look radiant and smooth in no time. The best thing is that the microdermabrasion kit is on sale right now for just $79.95 (originally $122.33). Check out ZiaNatural.com to learn more about their entire line of natural skincare products.
So I finally was able to crack into my latest sample packet from Saffron Rouge and I have to say I’m really impressed. The samples were from a New Zealand based company, Living Nature, that uses active, native plant ingredients foind in New Zealand and are BDIH certified natural. I tried the Vitalising Cleanser and the Nourishing Day Cream. The scent was almost non-existent for the cleanser which was a plus for me because I just really don’t like too many competing scents. The Day cream was a little bit stronger, scent-wise, but it grew on me. I tend to have oily/combo skin so I don’t think that either product was really suited for that but if you happen to have skin that’s a bit more dry it would be excellent.
I love the products that are being developed in New Zealand and Australia. They just have such a fresh and unique outlook on beauty products that my skin reacts well to. Check out Bare Naked Beauty for lots of other products. I literally could spend thousands of dollars on their site. I really can’t say that I would regularely stock my cabinet with one of Living Nature products as they are on the expensive side. I will say that just a few ounces was enough for two applications so your dollar would stretch. Plus I am currently still using the African Black Soap I told you about and I am seeing a huge difference. All in all I am loving the products that Saffron Rouge offers and the fact that they (Kirsten Binder specifically) are obviously personally invested in their integrity. Can’t ask for much more than that.
Since there’s been this Ditch the Disposables Challenge we talked about the other day I thought I would share some great replacement options. I used to have a pretty powerful paper towel addiction. It was ugly. It took a serious re-wiring of my brain to adjust to not pulling a paper towel out for EVERY.SINGLE.THING. However, I am proud to say that I was victorious over my addiction. Thanks to an army of dish rags, flannel wipes and cotton napkins, I find very few occasions where I just need to use a paper towel. Instead of going through a roll every few days, we now go through one every month or so. I’m not tooting my horn, It was just a REALLY hard habit to kick. Plus I only end up doing one load of these a week so it’s really not as labor intensive as I anticipated.
And here are a few of my favorite options that will last for the long haul. Oh and honestly if it’s a choice between some organically grown bamboo, über expensive fabric and coventionally grown cotton product that’s from used fabric, I’m always going to choose used. Old cut up t-shirts make awesome all-purpose rags. I use them for just about everything. Oh and certain kinds of sweaters work well too. These are great for dishes and stubborn floor stains and you just throw them in the machine. Oh and these we use…well for the obvious but they also have a dozen other uses. We do keep them seperate so the butt ones don’t get mixed with the face and hands ones. They are excellent for quick cleanups after meals and I always stuff a few in my purse/diaper bag for when we’re out. Really anything work ya know. Just ditch the paper habit. If not completely then at least you can reduce it.
So I know we’ve talked about NVEY Eco Cosmetics here before. I love their mascara but I haven’t really gotten around to trying anything else from the line. Well I had a friend ask me to reccomend a foundation the other day since she didn’t want to continue to use the one she had as it was laden with chemical baddies. I don’t wear foundation but I steared her toward NVEY because they have several options that look promising. I would like to see if there are any of you who have actually tried their liquid foundation and how you thought it worked for you? Also if you have any experience with other brands of natural and/or organic foundations, please speak up.
Saturday is the day I get to sleep in thanks to my lovely husband so it’s also the day that my brain is utterly useless. Waking up past 8am apparently makes me incapable of forming complete sentences or sitting upright for too long. So I have let others do the thinking for me today. Enjoy!
BTC Elements Blog has a great recipe for vegan jello shots. I personally don’t dig J-E-L-L-O at all but if ever there was a reason to indulge, Vodka would be it. I’m thinking about making some for our Halloween party this year. It’s so 1989.

Join Crunchy Domestic Goddess in her Ditch the Disposables Challenge. She’s encouraging people to ditch things like paper towels, disposable wipes etc. I stopped short of the toilet paper becasue well for obvious reasons. We use cloth diapers and wipes and it works out great but I think mostly because I love my son…and he’s two. I don’t think I have enough love in my heart to launder my husband’s butt wipes. Sorry.
